Getting start with vim editor - vim full form

In this tutorial we will cover VI and VIM for beginning with screenshot so you can understand better

VI or VIM EditorVI or VIM is the most popular, cross platform text editor, available for most platform like Linux, Windows and Mac, VI stand for VIsual  and default editor of Linux.

What is full form of VI or VIM ?

VI stand for VIsual and VIM stand for VI ( IMproved )

Installation of VI or VIM

Most of the Linux like OS vi comes as default editor and no need to install on it but we have to install vim package for better experience.

To Install vim Editor

CentOS / RHEL

yum install vim

Ubuntu / Debian

apt install vim

Window 

1 - Go to the official website - vim.org

2 - Click on Download

 3 - Click on Self installing executable exe in  MS Window section

After the click on the link it will download gvim.exe file, save it on your local drive and run this installer file.

apart from that it will ask you a language selection, select your prefered language and click on OK button.

Next Window :  Welcome to Vim Setup, just click on next button

Next Window : License Agreement, 

Click on Check box, I accept the terms of license agreement and press Next Button

Choose Components and click on Next button

Choose _vimrc setting, Keep it default and click on next button

Choose Install Location and Click on Next button

At the end, finished it, Now we successfully installed vim editor in window operating system.

To open vim in windows 

Press Windows Key + s  together for search and type vim

To open vi or vim in Linux, Open terminal and enter vim command

vim
